Fix #3: Insert the cameras Audio/Video (AV) cable, and turn the camera on. Then I restarted the camera and it worked properly. When you looked at it the lens "hole" was sideways and it would not retract completely inside the camera. I decided that it was time to try one last fix on my own. Don't try to remove the LCD completely since there are two ribbon connections, one at the top and on the left side that cannot be disconnected. it works perfectly! I have a Canon SD1000, that recently had a little bit of a different problem than most posts here.
