PS: I had no memory card in the camera (with its door closed) during the entire process. The thing that worked for me is #7;; Forcing the lens in. I got the dreaded lens error message saying that the camera would shut down which it didn't. The E18 fault had the lens stuck.

When it broke I called Canon service and they were useless plus they wanted a fortune to fix it. Where is Canon to step in and help.
