My husband tried some of the tips we found on this site and our lens actually started to work but then it got stuck immediately again. Fix #5: Blow compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens. The idea is that the camera should try to autofocus while extending the lens. It was a small drop.

It really was an extremly gentle rotation of the lens which didn't feel as though it could possibly have done any damage to the camera.
