The screen shots you have mentioned is very helpful to understand which part is where located and what to do. In its place it has adopted the more common term "lens error" that other manufacturers use. the E18 displayed on the LCD is an error code which means the zoom lens is stuck or obstructed when trying to extend. Thanks! More about the author Use the paper between the inner and the outer lens and on the outside of the outer lens. I still have some grinding noise from the servo, but the camera works! Well, that might be a more complete solution, but I don't think I would ever have got the whole thing together again. Canon Error Code 5100

Any advice would be appreciated. several of the Canon digital cameras I've seen are constructed in a similar manner and luckily use screws to hold the case together, allowing for disassembly. These should come off relatively easily. It may be possible for you to recover from this error by dismantling the camera and dislodging whatever is obstructing the lens or lens geartrain.
