Many thanks to the experts here who pointed me in the right direction! lo and behold, its fixed. That printer is probably the most difficlut to take apart of any of the Canon MPxxx printer. If the water is getting through you will see the colour coming out.

I just saw this thread as I have the dreaded 6A00 error on my MP830 as well and haven't been able to find a fix for it. Mind you, before discovering this site I had even gone to the trouble of reinstalling the printer drivers. The print head moves, the rollers on the bottom move and appear to have nothing jammed. By the way this was my first error on this printer after having it for almost 4 yrs. Tried cleaning (vie maintenance menu) Anonymous Jan 01, 2009 When swicthing on of printer an error 6a00 is immediately displayed. Canon 6a00 This morning I got the 6A00 error message. First you have to unlock the printhead by raising the gray lever on the right side of the carriage.
You can't believe what kind of things I have found inside printers that childern from 1 to 92 have dropped into them.

However, mine was still getting stuck after I cleaned it. I followed the instructions to reseat the ink holder home pad, and the 6A00 Error problem was resolved! One of the main function of the purge unit is to move the wiper blades forward and "Wipe" the bottom of the printhead to remove any excess ink.
