Truly invaluable advice! The idea is to try to dislodge any sand particles that may be jamming the lens barrel stuck. I tried blowing with compressed air and saw a tiny improvement but still no go. In particular, this lens error may occur when the camera is used in certain environmental conditions such as high temperature and/or humidity.

Instead of pushing it down, I pulled up where the gap was smaller. I did all the easy things: charging battery, tapping camera, jiggling lens, blowing with hair dryer, paper between lens units, cable connection to computer. Mine was extended and wouldn't retract. Canon is about the worst place to fix these and they are way overpriced to boot! It is not possible to hide telescope of lences. I tried fix #1 and #2 but no luck.

I took this camera home and installed four batteries that tested good. i had tried sticking the cord in to charge it and i tried hitting it and what not haha, but yeahh! hey i have a kodak easyshare m753, and like a week ago, it wouldnt retract the lens and was stuck like that.
If the lens extends even further, grab it again at its furthest extension, preventing it from returning. I went straight to technique 10/11 and fiddled with (push/pull/twist) the lens.
