After trying everything under the sun I just decided to have it repaired. The lens error will occur once these materials work their way into the lens mechanism. If it's too costly to repair, and you have no other option, you might want to consider retrying the last too fixes (tapping the camera, and forcing the lens). Laden... EmailPosted December 18, 2012 9:06 amIdaI have a cannon PowerShot SD1300IS for a little less than a couple of years, I've taken good care of it always had it kept in The E18 fault had the lens stuck. Use very little of this. I tried to gently push it down, but nothing happened.
I tried the various low level fixes and eventually gently compressed the barrel to try and even out the extension. Maybe the speck I saw on the barrel was the culprit. wahoooooo!!! Listen for a "click" to hint that they've been reseated, and immediately stop forcing the lens at this point.
I did not want to try tips #6-7 because i might completely wreck my camera and not be able to take any picture for the remainder of my vacation. I believe this problem is prevalent in these cameras. Nothing. My camera is two yrs old and has never been dropped.
This was without zooming in at all. I was actually pretty upset about it as the camer had jsut gone out of warranty. Don't spend money on a new camera though, you can be right back where you started again. im desperate for help!

All of a sudden yesterday, I took 5 shots with my S2 IS and the camera refused to shut off, nor would the lens retract and error code E18 was displayed thanks so much!i did everything.this helped so much :Dyayy! I continued to turn the shaft MANY TIMES in a direction AWAY from the front of the lens until the lens appeared fully retracted.
But the lens would not retract and got Lens error. Thus it does not cover straightening the lens barrel if it is crooked, which the text does. one of them worked, not sure which. I tried to fix it using compressed air blown into the gaps between the lens barrels but that didn't seem to make any difference.
