If the camera is still under warranty, before trying any of these, please please first contact your camera's maker to see if they'll cover the repair, or to determine how much over a week i carefully tried all of the fixes described on these sites without success.i could feel the grit in the lens extension mechanism as it tried to extend. it broke at the end of a linkin park concert, but im so happy i got fantastic pics off the memory card :)guess i better get a new camera now lol Then in desperation, pressing random buttons.

Tonight when I found it, I tried all your tricks (cleaning around lens with thin piece of plastic, compressed air, turning the lens with pliers) and the lens is working again. The lens retracted all the way - but then extended half-way again. Removing and replacing the battery did the trick. It worked really well for me. 11/25/2012 by Andrea Thank you!!! I tried removing the battery, that did not work. Am sure that this is what caused it to loosen from the caulk. Instead, would recommend repeated cleaning's with compressed air around the lens, and also in any openings of the camera (memory card slot, battery door, etc.).
