Blowing with Dust-Off in and around the lens, and banging on the USB cured the problem. Would you like to answer one of these unanswered questions instead?
The lens mechanism retraction is very fragile. I went as far to call Canon and they were useless, saying I must have dropped my camera or got sand in it, which neither of the two happened.Anyway, that other Canon should have to pay to fix this on mine. When you turn it on it only stays on for a moment and the display says lens error restart camera.
