Canon Sx100 Lens Error

Remove the memory card and keep it removed, then install the new batteries. The bottom part of it doesn't go all the way down when I turn the camera on, which I'm guessing is the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Also Nikons are way more common to get lens errors than Canon, read consumer reports. Maybe also consider using a small vacuum cleaner around these openings to draw the sand out.
It now works. I don't know if it's because it's not the exact same camera or if it's because of it being broken. (I had used a HP camera on my computer without the Canon Sd1100 Lens Error Lens was partially extended, would not go back into place, E18 error. If the lens extends even further, grab it again at its furthest extension, preventing it from returning. If it goes to a store position -ok.

I stripped down the camera and then the lens. Thanks for the information. But tapping on the ground makes my A75 work again! I was bit put off as there was no obvious damage or any irregularity in the lens but I pushed it down until I heard a click.

My Canon "Power Shot SX 100 I.S." is saying 'lens error' and I tried restarting it, changing the battery, and everything! Instead of pushing it down, I pulled up where the gap was smaller. When in picture mode the lens did not retract. My co-worker and I spent about 30 minutes this morning trying all 7 of the fixes on your list, to no avail.
Not sure if this will work for everyone but worked great for me.
